Jimmy Carr - Depression in parents

How did this help you or the person you’re supporting?

“In this episode of The Diary of a CEO, I found listening to Jimmy Carr’s experience with supporting his mum as a child through depression really comforting. It’s something I’ve struggled with for a long time and hearing him open up about what that was like for him growing up really resonated with me. During the discussion he talks about the importance of having nurturing support around you and he said ‘if you don’t have a mum or a dad, go find one’. He was alluding to the fact that often we resent the situations we’re in or we settle as it being the only outcome, but hearing him say that you can go find that parental figure in people who aren’t your own blood relatives was just what I needed when I was struggling with my own mum.”
